Just to confirm, she survived the casting and appears to have suffered no ill effects except some stubborn plaster in her hair.

The Elm City Baby has a mild case of torticollis, a condition where the neck muscles are shorter on one side that results in a head tilt to the preferred side (with the longer muscles). She has liked her right side since birth and now has a flat spot on the right side of her head. Due to the shortening and flattening, she has daily head exercises and will soon be sporting a DOC Band cranial restructuring device from Cranial Technologies (CT). In this picture, we are about to take photos of her head at CT. She's not very excited about the whole process. 

Doing her neck exercises with Dad- no fun! This is just before a plaster cast of her head was made. The cast is the basis for making her DOC Band. The DOC Band will be ready within two weeks from yesterday.

A cast is made by putting a sock-like piece of cotton over her head and cutting out a mouth hole. Then quick drying plaster strips are applied to the front of the baby's head. She hated the whole process and cried most the time. 

She sits up to put on the back half of the cast. 

They continue to apply strips of plaster, while she cries. 

The technician makes marking to divide the cast into two pieces: front and back.

This is what her final cast looked like. CT will pour plaster into the mod and make a model of her head to use when creating her band. The tilt is due to her torticollis.
